Honoring Lives Lost and Voices That Still Echo on Transgender Day of Remembrance
The crowd gathered with candles in hand, lifting their voices for people who can no longer speak for themselves. The ceremony marked Transgender Day of Remembrance, a night set aside to honor transgender and gender diverse people killed by violence.

Organizers called on the community to remember their ancestors and trancestors. The night carried weight. Two hundred and eighty one people around the world lost their lives this year because of their identity. Fifty eight of them were in the United States, including two in the City of Los Angeles. As Capri Maddox, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department, stated, “Hate has no home in Los Angeles.”
