"When Black Women Lead" Exhibit Exemplifies 2026 African American Heritage Month in LA
This year's celebrations of African American Heritage Month in the City of Los Angeles focus on the story of resistance and the role women have played in leading that story.
Black women leaders took over City Hall from the Bridge to the Rotunda. From presentations in Council Chambers to the photo exhibit on the Bridge Gallery, the women were spotlighted to honor the work they do day in and day out to lift up the community.
Mayor Bass and Councilmembers paid tribute to the selected honorees from across the City, who are the subjects of the photo exhibition on display at the Bridge Gallery. The City Department of Cultural Affairs also launched a full calendar of events to mark African American Heritage month in Los Angeles.
